International Women’s Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Albury Wodonga Aquatic Facilities attended an event in Hovell Tree Park ran by the local Women’s Centre.

We used the opportunity to share with some of the local women the programs and facilities we offer, and how we can support them to be more active. Some women were unaware of what is available at our centres, so we were able to break down some of the perceived barriers that were preventing them from using our facilities.

One of our personal trainers, Chantal, also ran a 15-minute Tabata session during the event. The initial plan was to use slam balls as part of a circuit, however, some of the little kids decided that the slam balls were there for them to play with instead! Overall, the workout was well received, with many people sharing a laugh together as they gave something new a go.

One of the main highlights of the event was seeing women from different cultures and backgrounds get involved in the event; showcasing their beautiful clothes and traditional dances and having fun together.

The Women’s Centre ran the event for the first time last year with just themselves, this year there were many other stall holders and community groups. We can’t wait to see how the event continues to grow in the next few years as we continue to promote #balanceforbetter and acknowledge and support women in our community.
