Wodonga Sports & Leisure Centre Closure

This information was issued at 10.30am on Monday 23 March 2020.

The Australian Government last night (Sunday 22 March 2020) announced the closure of all non-essential services in a bid to halt the further spread of Covid-19 (Coronavirus), including gyms and indoor sporting facilities.

From 12.00pm noon on Monday 23 March, the Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre will be closed to the public until further notice. Given Wodonga WAVES, Albury Swim Centre and Lavington Swim Centre are outdoor pool facilities, these will remain open.

While there are no known visits by a Covid-19 carrier to any of these facilities, this precautionary action has been taken to support the Government’s effort to protect the health and safety of our country, and to minimise the impact on our health care system in the wake of this crisis.

Ben Tudhope, Business Development Manager said that Aligned Leisure were fully supportive of the Government’s decision and were hopeful it would be a positive step towards slowing the spread of the virus across the Country.

“The health and safety of our people, both staff and customers has always been our number one priority. We understand that there will be an impact felt by many from these closures, however believe this is the right decision to protect our community based on current advice.”  said Mr Tudhope.

“We are currently working to contact all of our valued members and guests to ensure that they are kept fully informed as further advice is received and look forward to welcoming everyone back at the earliest available opportunity.”

It is unclear at this stage how long the closure will be in effect for, with any decision on reopening to be based on advice from the Australian Government. Throughout the closure, we will be working to support our staff as best as we can and hope to be in a position for them to return to work soon.
